When it comes to New Year’s Resolutions, baby steps are key to being successful, in my opinion. Some of the most common New Years Resolutions revolve around ones health and fitness. Over my 26 years of life, I have found that many people are unsuccessful in keeping their goals because they make such drastic changes to their lifestyle that it eventually becomes too overwhelming and they give up. This is what we want to avoid.
When I first started eating clean and healthy a few years ago I took baby steps. I started by switching out a few unhealthy products that I used on a frequent basis with healthier choices. Like swapping my oils. Instead of using canola oil, sunflower oil, vegetable oil etc. I started using only avocado oil, palm oil, coconut oil and olive oil. I also started by slowing adding in more fruits or vegetables into my diet, one by one.
One fruit that I didn’t eat enough of before was blueberries. I am very picky about the textures of my foods and for some reason or another I never liked the texture of fresh blueberries. My kids on they other hand devour them in one sitting. I always knew that Blueberries were healthy for you. They are chocked full of antioxidants and vitamins such as Vitamin C, vitamin K and Manganese, so wanted to reap the benefits of these nutritious fruits. I started incorporating them into some of my favorite foods like pancakes, oatmeal, muffins, smoothies, popsicles, bars, etc. I fell in love with the flavor of blueberries when cooked in my favorite dishes or added to my smoothies. I may be slightly obsessed with them now, although I still wont eat them plain lol! If you follow me on instagram you are probably already aware of this … seeing as how I post many delicious recipes made with blueberries.
Another reason I love blueberries so much is that you can find them fresh all year long and they work wonderful in recipes when frozen too. I also have a huge bag of frozen ones on hand!
Today I want to share a new favorite recipe of mine that I like to enjoy post-workout. It’s a protein infused blueberry smoothie that tastes delicious and is very easy to make.
