Graffiti Nail Art

Ever since designers like Phillip Lim, Kate Spade and Rachel Antonoff embraced “Graffiti” nail art during New York Spring Fashion Week 2013, I have been seeing “Graffiti” nail art all around. I finally decided to try out this trend using some fun new Sally Hansen colors I ordered offline from Walgreens. I saw that Sally Hansen had their Insta-Dri Polishes on sale for just $3.99 online, so I knew I had to snatch some up. I have several of these polishes in my collection and love the application bushes and how fast the dry. I wanted to make sure I ordered some fun shades for summer and chose the following colors:

  • Brisk Blue
  • Lightening,
  • Peachy Breeze
  • Lively Lilac
  • Lickety-Split Lime

There are many ways you can interpret “Graffiti” nail art and many techniques you can do to achieve the look; however, with it being my first time attempting the look, I decided to go with a more simple technique. The following two nail tutorials I completed can be achieved by anyone, no matter your skill level. It is simple, foolproof and little tools are required to complete the looks.

Step 1

Paint all of your nails with Sally Hansen’s Insta-Dri Fast Dry Nail Color in 02 Whirlwind.

Step 2

Add a dot of polish on a piece of paper, dip your sponge in the polish and sponge onto random areas of the nails. You can leave as is, or continue to step 3.

  • I used Sally Hansen Instra-Dri in Brisk Blue, Lightening, Peachy Breeze, Lively Lilac, and Lickety-Split Lime

Step 3

Add a few black stripes on each nail using Sally Hansen Crackle Overcoat and then swirl the colors together using a toothpick or other tool.

Step 1

Paint each nail in a different color of choice.

  • I used Sally Hansen Instra-Dri in (L-R) Peachy Breeze, Lively Lilac, Brisk Blue, Lickety-Split Lime and Lightening

Step 2

Add random dots on nails (in each color not used on the nail base) and pull in various directions with a toothpick or other tool.  Leave as is, or continue to step 3.

Step 3

Add Sally Hansen Crackle Overcoat to entire nail.

We all know that nail art of any kind is a popular trend and often times it can be the focal point of an outfit. Treat your nail art like an accessory during the hot months coming so that you do not have to worry about layering on a ton of accessories. With so many styles, color combinations, patterns, etc., you should have no problems creating the perfect nail art design for your outfit. Just be sure to consider the color, shape and pattern of your outfit when choosing a design, just as you would when styling you outfit with other accessories.

Here are a few outfits I paired with the Graffiti nail art I created above

What I loved most about creating Graffiti nail art was that there was no rules to it and each look I created was unique and unpredictable. You can let your imagination run wild when creating these care free looks and you don’t have to worry about being perfect with it!
