Working Out with Diastasis Recti (abdominal wall seperation)

It’s been a while since I last posted a fitness look and truth be told, it’s because I have been struggling with my body ever since having Diastasis Recti (abdominal wall seperation). After giving birth to my son, I soon found out I had Diastasis Recti and it’s been a self-conscious and physical struggle for me ever since. I was always a fitness junky who enjoyed hardcore workouts before, so going from that to completely changing my entire workout routines to, ‘in a sense,’ baby my abdominal wall, has been hard for me. I’m not as toned or muscular as I use to be, or want to be, for that matter but I’ve made huge progress and thats something to be grateful about.  My son is now 2 1/2 years old and while I haven’t completely healed myDiastasis Recti, I have gotten it smaller and through my healthy eating I was able to loose all of my baby weight. My stomach will still protrude out like a baby bump when I don’t hold it properly, when I squat or get on all fours but it’s nothing like it use to be. I am starting to see definition again in my abs but somedays my stomach will pop out worse than other days. No it’ not bloating… I actually rarely ever get bloated anymore since choosing a healthy lifestyle years ago. If anyone is interested in a full post on living with Diastasis Recti or more about it, I would be happy to share what I have experienced and learned from having it. I am following the Tupler Technique to close the gap, which has been very helpful. I wore the bands for a very long time but no longer do. I could go on and on about this but I’ll save it for another day.

Below are just a few of the exercises and forms of cardio I currently do. With each exercise, I make sure to properly engage my core, so that I don’t make my abdominal wall separation worse. This is very important! I typically do 3 sets of 12.

    Wow! I have never heard of Diastasis Recti before. Thanks for sharing. And I would never have guessed anything wrong by your pictures. Your stomach looks great! I’m guessing your hot pink pants are older since you didn’t list them, but I absolutely love them. Now I’m on a hunt for something similar!


      It’s actually very common after pregnancy (most women get it to some degree) for women but most people arent aware of it. Doctors in the US dont really inform women of it, though they should. A lot of women just think they are fat and cant get rid of the baby weight and give up when a lot of it is due to having Diastasis Recti. Of course thats not always the case.
