Why your smartphone device should be turned off during vacation

Even though you might want to follow the latest beauty tips and immerse yourself into the world of Instagram on occasions, sometimes leaving a smartphone device off during a vacation abroad is a worthwhile thing to do for many holidaymakers. After all, sometimes it’s good to have a break from technology, isn’t it?

We live in a modern climate where people are constantly focused on their miniature handheld devices. These days, the vast majority of us are heavily reliant on phones made by the likes of Nokia and Apple, be it to communicate with friends and family on tools like WhatsApp or to enjoy the array of popular mobile games out there like Cat Queen online slots. While innovation in this space is remarkable and smartphone devices are incredible little tools, sometimes when you’re on holiday they can hinder the overall experience. Below is a look at some reasons why you should consider turning your smartphone off when on vacation.

You’ll experience things you might otherwise miss

While online review sites can come in handy, especially if you’re aiming to discover a new location, sometimes it’s good to just find your own way around. After all, why wouldn’t you want to discover a hidden gem than frequent a restaurant everyone else goes to? Sometimes, in order to truly immerse yourself into a location, it’s worthwhile to not rely on other peoples’ views and find your own way around town. Forget Google Maps, leave the review sites alone, and find your very own original spot to take in a fresh destination in your own way. Not only will it make for a journey of discovery, but you might actually find somewhere a lot better than the review sites generally suggest. It’s also a sure-fire way to communicate with locals and experience a foreign setting in the best way possible. Sometimes, the internet doesn’t always have the answers.

Rekindle the lost art of conversation

As we’ve touched on already, turning off a smartphone device and embarking on an exploration experience is not only more beneficial in terms of getting to know an area, but it will also enable you to meet more people and learn about specific cultures from locals. If you’re constantly referring to your smartphone device for tips and directions, there’s a chance you’ll miss a local gem or a friendly fellow traveler who is attempting to say hello. A phone can almost certainly be a communication barrier at times, especially if you’re fixated on a social media post or reading a Yelp Image review and have no idea what is going on around you. Ditch it and see what happens.

Enjoy some peace

Sometimes the online world can be detrimental to us humans, especially when it comes to mental health. The constant exchanging of messages and sharing of social media posts can become draining at times, particularly if you’re keen to immerse yourself into a new culture and see everything that there is on offer. Of course, it’s good to talk to people and update them on your travels, but doing too much of it can certainly hinder a holiday. After all, people go on vacation to escape everyday life, so why would you want constant reminders of it? You might even open yourself up to work-related scenarios that you really don’t want to deal with while on vacation, too. Make the most of not having to rely on a tool that you use every day anyway and enjoy some peace and quiet in the process. You’ll realize that you probably haven’t missed anything also. You’ll get to see more, too.
